I'm studying urban planning... I chose this domain instead of architecture last year. I don't know if one day I'll regret my choice but I want to know what an architect thinks about an urban planner? Lower? Equal? Useless?

Hi! Thanks for your question.

Personally, I don’t think urban planners are “useless” or “lower” than an architect. I would say they are equal, as they each have attributes that the other normally does not. It is true that there is an overlap between the two disciplines, and many architects have a minor or concentration in urban planning (which is closely related to landscape architecture). An architect by themselves usually thinks about a building and its surrounding context, and less about its context within a city area. Urban planners think on a broader scale, not on an individual scale. There needs to be cooperation between the two parties.

If you think you’ll “regret your choice,” you should take a couple architecture classes, just to integrate that in and see how you like it. It’s never too late for you to switch over or become both things.

I hope this answers your question! Thanks for checking out this blog! :D
